I previously wrote that I was going to stop writing about this, but our dear leader, President Trump decided to launch a war. Wars, conflicts, “special military operations”, whatever they are called are generally terrible things with horrible outcomes for those involved. I am going to focus on one particular facet of this.
We’ll keep this short, petroleum products are more expensive now than 10 months ago.
The highest electric block rate we pay right now is 0.125263/kWh.
Our at home charging station reports that we’ve put 2463kWh into the car this last 12 months and our long term average “mileage” in the Etron is 40.23kWh/100mi. Together that means about 6122 miles of driving and $308.50 in electricity.
Home electric rates, managed by rate commissions and in many cases powered by natural gas generators, have increased less dramatically than gasoline and diesel.
The current average premium gas price in Utah is ~$5.27/gallon vs. $3.96/gallon a year ago. Oops.
Anyway back to our comparable Audi Q7 45, where 6122 miles with an average fuel consumption of 22mi/gallon means 278 gallons of (premium!) gas. At today’s prices that’s $1465. Oops.
What if we paid non-membership Electrify America pricing, averaging, for example $0.50/kWh? That’s $1231 for the same distance. Still less.
